University of Colorado Denver Demo - 23 April 2014

I had an opportunity to pack up the dark box, chemicals and camera and head over to UC Denver to do a demonstration for Carol Golemboski's photography class.

When I returned to the states in 2011, this was one of the things I wanted to do as much as I could. My goal is to influence American university students to think more about photography and in different ways - wet collodion is a great catalyst for this. At minimum, it gives them something to think about. Like all things in life, options are good.

Jeanne and I had a great time! Thanks to Carol and all of the students that attended!

Wet Collodion Workshop January 2014

It's been several months since I've taught a wet collodion (positive) workshop. Over the past weekend (Jan 18-19), I had a great group of people come to Denver (or were in Denver) to learn the process.

We had Sophie (New York via Paris), Chris (San Fransisco), Tony (San Fransisco), Thom (Denver), and Steve (Denver). We had Matt Alberts assisting/teaching and Summer (my daughter) assisting/teaching. Jeanne (my wife) provided the food and drinks. We had a great time.

Not only did we learn about the wet plate collodion process, on Saturday, we had a very special guest visit. The owner and president of Chamonix Cameras, Hass came to Denver to visit us. What a treat. He brought me a wonderful gift, a very nice 10"x10" (25x25cm) custom wet plate holder. Hass showed everyone some of his work from Tibet. 24" x 32" (61x81cm) plates. They were absolutely beautiful! The people and landscape images were stunning - the elevation really added to the quality of light.

Here are a few iPhone photos that Jeanne shot during the workshop (thank you!)

Denver Arts Week, Nov 4-12, 2011

I have some public events planned for Denver Arts Week. The First Friday (Nov 4) I will be in my studio offering some artificial light demos and then on Second Saturday, I will offer the public a rare glimpse at witnessing an ultra-large Wet Plate Collodion image being made with my 20"x24" Camera, aka, "The Mighty Quinn". CBS Denver (Channel 4) will be doing a piece on me as well. They are featuring three of us in the RiNo Arts District; Jonathan Kaplan (Ceramics), Yoshi Saito (Bronze) and me. Thank you, RiNo!

If you're in the area, please drop by. If you have any questions, feel free to email me.

RiNo

RiNo stands for River North Arts District. That's where my studio is - they made a nice announcement for me in their newsletter for Friday night and my little "open house".

Hello Denver, Colorado USA!

Studio Q - 3519 Brighton Blvd. Unit G Denver, ColoradoWell, it's almost August and I left Europe on the 4th of June. To say I've been busy is an understatement.

I'm just now starting to see tiny glimmers of my life coming back. I regret nothing, but it's not an easy task moving from continent to continent. It's emotionally, spiritually and financially stressful.

In a few months, when my life resembles what's in my head and in my heart, I will look back and say that I loved every minute of it.

America so far, especially Denver, has been good to me. There is some adjustment and a wee bit of culture shock, but overall, I feel at home. I'm happy to be back - it's where I belong - and it's home.

I'm looking forward to the next couple of months. I'm working hard on getting my studio setup for an open house/gallery stroll on September 2nd and for teaching workshops on September 3rd -4th and 5th - 6th. I'm doing it right this time - it's the studio that will make any artist/photographer drool.
